Documentary “A Poet in Exile”

We are thrilled to announce the launch of a captivating new documentary, “A Poet in Exile”, on 5th May 2025!

This documentary delves into the life and works of the extraordinary haiku poet, James Emanuel and his friendship and musical collaboration with Noah. It features a inspired musical composition for the Middle Passage, created and performed by Noah Howard, who also recorded a CD with the same title with James Emanuel.

The Middle Passage refers to the horrific transatlantic journey that enslaved Africans were forced to endure as they were transported to the Americas during the Atlantic slave trade. This term specifically describes the middle leg of the triangular trade route that connected Europe, Africa, and the Americas.

The documentary is curated by the esteemed Professor Tyechia L. Thompson, Ph.D., from the Virginia Tech Department of English and Affiliate Faculty ASPECT, this documentary promises to be an enlightening and inspiring experience.

Mark your calendars and join us in celebrating the legacy of a remarkable poet!
